As one of the specialty fields of surgery, the Department of Plastic Surgery corrects structural deformities or anomalies and functional defects. The department is responsible for correcting external congenital anomalies or acquired deformities or defects to an approximately normal state in terms of functions and shapes.

Plastic surgery can be divided into reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery, but it is difficult to distinguish clearly between the two fields. Reconstruction surgery ultimately aims at improving the shape and has aesthetic effects. Cosmetic surgery has reconstructive effects as well. The fields are divided into cosmetic surgery and reconstructive surgery depending on which effects are being focused on more.
